Abstract:
Tourism is one of the basic desires of every human being for experience, education, and entertainment. It is also one of the important areas in the tertiary sector of India. Health care is a subsector under tourism. Health care tourism sector has gained enormous response throughout the world and in India, especially during this post-globalization phase. It is so primarily because of its association with the inflow of foreign exchange through foreign tourist arrival, and foreign direct investment and its impact on the economy—sociocultural, economic, politico-legal, etc. The contribution of domestic tourist also cannot be ignored. The article is aimed to create awareness among various stakeholders of health care tourism in West Bengal and at the same time create more enthusiasm toward the subsector. The article also puts forward some specific recommendations to make the West Bengal health care sector more viable, vibrant, and sustainable.
