The Glocalization of English

Abstract: The spread of English around the world provides an ideal focus for the study of glocalization. Focusing on the glocalization of English as it has spread in the context of Mainland China, this article examines the nature and impact of the social transformations that have taken place as a result of the global expansion of English and how English has been glocalized in the ecology of Mainland China. The article analyzes the appropriation, adaptation, and differentiation of English in Mainland China from a sociolinguistic point of view.
