Abstract: Like all critical decisions impinging on the performance of a business enterprise, the choice of strategic alternatives is time-specific and place- specific. Even though a large body of literature has accumulated around the strategic choices offirms, studies based on Indian experience are few. Using a sample representing various industries and different ownership patterns, this paper analyses the relationship between strategic choices and profitability in Indian firms.
