Abstract:
The UNESCO Regional Office for Education in Africa has spearheaded development of a draft regional strategy for the implementation of the UNDESD in sub-Saharan Africa. The strategy aims to harmonize implementation of ESD; broaden public awareness; promote an education system that enhances African culture, especially when it contributes to sustainable development; strengthen the quality of education; and consolidate and diversify partners. It promotes strengthening both vocational and technical education and non-formal education. All regions of sub-Saharan Africa were invited to contribute to the strategy and it is expected to change in response to stakeholder needs over the decade.
