Abstract:
Urban regeneration practitioners continue to search for ways to target a larger share of local employment opportunities towards residents in regeneration areas. This paper explores the potential contribution that childcare projects can make in this area. By evaluating the impacts of an innovative childcare project in the East End of Glasgow, the paper shows that the employment situation of many of the users has been improved and that some owe their foothold in the labour market to the service provided. It concludes that childcare merits more attention as a targeting measure and an element in area regeneration strategies
