Regional service scheme: New tools in economic development

Abstract: Economic developers are facing a continuously changing business environment. It is even more difficult than previously to predict the economic conditions which regions and companies located within them will face. Industries are undergoing some radical changes. As a result of the recession, regional economic patterns have to be changed and modernized in a timely fashion. In common with many other regions in the European Union, the need for action arose in Jyväskylä wheneconomic turbulence in the world economy had its radical effects here in 2008. Economic developers responded with an operational scheme to manage structural change in the region. The aim was, within a short period of time, to find new business models based on the particular strengths and advantages of the region.
