Technology Management in Semiconductor Laboratory

Deepak Kapur

Management and Labour Studies, 2007, vol. 32, issue 4, 541-551

Abstract: The 1970s saw the emergence of Semiconductor ICs for making microprocessors and personal computers based on the microprocessors built using the microelectronics based Integrated Circuit (IC) technology. The Government of India (GOI) correctly identified the importance of this new technology and decided to set up a facility to build domestic capabilities in this ‘new technology’ that indicated huge potential. It was in such a background that Semiconductor Complex Ltd (SCL) was set up as a Central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) at Mohali near Chandigarh by the GOI in 1983. From Semiconductor Complex Limited to Semiconductor Laboratory, it has been a long journey for SCL. The present paper examines the ‘technology management’ related issues in SCL.
