An Occasion for Making an Overtime Payment

Mohan Gopinath, Edwin L Castelino, Dolphy M Abraham and Srividya Iyengar

Management and Labour Studies, 2011, vol. 36, issue 2, 189-197

Abstract: This case is based on an actual event which happened in an international bank located in Mumbai. This case is meant to bring out how organizational conflicts can flare up without warning and can overshadow everything that a manager wants to do during the day. It particularly looks at the importance of handling unions without pandering to their every whim and examines the importance of cross cultural sensitivity in the work place. The case is also meant to provoke responses from professionals on how they may perhaps have tackled the situation.
