Towards Understanding the Role of Emotions in Workplace Performance

Priti Suman Mishra

Management and Labour Studies, 2012, vol. 37, issue 2, 93-106

Abstract: The current literature review examined a relationship between emotional intelligence and workplace performance. According to popular opinion and workplace testimonials, EI increases performance and productivity in an organization. However, there has been a general lack of independent, systematic analysis substantiating that claim. This article provides a critical review of the research field of EI linked with workplace performance and examines the usefulness of the construct in the occupational settings. Overall, this review demonstrates that recent research has made important strides towards understanding the usefulness of EI in the workplace.
