Medium-Term Planning in Uk Nationalised Industries: an Enquiry

T.D. Sheriff

National Institute Economic Review, 1978, vol. 84, issue 1, 57-64

Abstract: This article presents the answers to a number of questions put to eight nationalised industries about their medium-term planning procedures. Two of the conclusions are that, on balance, the use of econometric techniques has diminished rather than increased over time, and that those industries which provided the figures they were using for the medium- term took fairly pessimistic views about the future UK growth rate. In conclusion, it is suggested that there could usefully be more public discussion of the assumptions underlying the various macro-economic medium-term projections now extant.
