A Catastrophe Theory Analysis: City Government Finances

Abstract: This article utilizes a novel development in mathematics-catastrophe theory—to examine the finances of the top 48 U. S. cities. The conclusion is that all the cities are m situations comparable to New York's and Cleveland's, where the potential for catastrophe exists.
