Abstract: In conformity with the job demands and resources theory, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of the impact of Pakistani hotel employees’ proactive personality and their professional identity on employee engagement and the mediating role of self-efficacy. The study was carried out by utilizing the empirical information collected from 360 hotel employees from different 4-star and 5-star hotels in Pakistan. This study employs structural equation modeling to better assess the employee engagement phenomenon. Research shows that a proactive personality and professional identity positively affects self-efficacy and employee engagement. The findings also confirm that self-efficacy is an important aspect that promotes the relationship between proactive personality and professional identity and employee engagement. In addition, this study shows that managers need to foster employees’ professional practices, improve training delivery, and encourage job flexibility in order to increase their engagement.
