Abstract: The present study was undertaken to investigate the personality characteristics of addicts in Iran and to investigate the applicability of the Persian version of the Manson Evaluation Scale. A sample of 107 hospitalized male addicts was compared with a group of 90 non- addicts, using the scale. All MES scales attained statistically significant t-values at or better than 1 per cent levels of confidence. The study supports findings in western societies except that the present sample shows more psychoneurotic traits than psychopathic trends.
