Abstract: This paper examines the needs of Japanese pensioners in long-stay tourism in the Chiangmai province of Thailand, and the readiness of local residents to respond to those needs. Two questionnaires were used to collect the data. The first was issued to 342 Japanese pensioners who were over 60 years old and currently living in Japan. The second was issued to 400 Thais in Tambon Suthep, Muang District, Chiangmai. The research results from each sample group are presented and discussed. Recommendations are offered regarding advisory facilities and activities, which were identified as missing from the current management of Thailand's long-stay tourism project.
