Abstract: This study examines how certain independent variables explain the propensity for package trips to be chosen over independent travel. The empirical setting is the student travel market, and the analyses are of surveys carried out at a Norwegian university college in 2007 and 2014. The results show that package trip propensity dropped in the period studied and that certain background variables, trip motives and trip characteristics explain more than a fair share of students’ propensity to opt for a package trip rather than independent travel.
