Abstract: This article examines the prospects and challenges for employee participation on the boards of European Companies (SEs) under the European Company Statute. The article sets the current debate in the context of European 20th century industrial relations and 21st century globalisation. The author argues that worker involvement on the boards of companies will have to be achieved by means of persuasion and cooperation rather than confrontation.
