Abstract: At the Lisbon Summit in 2000 the EU Member States agreed to create more and better jobs over the coming decade. The quality of work is also part of the European Employment Strategy. This article examines how the quality of work is defined and how it is linked to gender issues. The article presents the differing levels and types of women's and men's integration into the labour market and discusses the limitations of the existing concepts of quality of work and their national implementation.
