Abstract: The purpose of this introductory article is to lead in to the main articles on the subject of changing experiences of work. It initially discusses some of the main concepts that have structured the debate in recent years, and then presents the framework of the issue. In contrast with the previous ‘industrial’ conception of work, which was a rather homogeneous experience for most workers, the current experience of work is characterised by the diversity among workers along three main axes: time, space and contractual regulation. It is along these three dimensions that the subsequent articles are structured. The article concludes with a summary of the main findings of these articles.
