The Effects of Region on the Welfare and Monetary Income of Spanish Families

Abstract: In this paper, we carry out a regional study aimed at measuring the effects of different regions on the welfare and income of Spanish families. This has, in turn, allowed us to calculate the inequality in welfare and income that exists between these households. The results confirm the relation between welfare and monetary income for those Spanish households in which both spouses work. Furthermore, we find that the welfare level in the east and Madrid regions is higher than elsewhere, with the lowest welfare level being found in the south. The comparison between regions allows us to rank them from the lowest to the highest welfare levels, with this ranking adopting the order north, centre, east, south and Madrid.
