Abstract: This paper examines and compares dividend policies and practices of select corporate firms in India and South-East Asia. The study confirms, as suggested by Lintner, that the firms prefer a stable dividend policy. Inter-industry variations, notwithstanding, retained earnings constitute an important source of funds for Indian firms; and the ratio shows a statistically significant increase in the post-liberalisation period.
