Abstract: The environment of Orissa has been adversely affected by the degradation of natural resources in the state. Not only have the different patterns of development in the state led to the degradation of these natural resources but also other factors like growth of population, poverty level, and unsustainable activities adopted by the poor and the rich have become crucial for the degradation of valuable natural resources in the state. The adoption of unsustainable activities is, however, driven by the market, institutional and policy failures.
