Abstract: May 25, 2020 marks two years since the entry into force of the GDPR across the EU. The provisions of the directive were known since the date of publication, in 2016, and the time remaining until the date of the application has been designed for businesses to take the measures necessary to comply with these provisions. To this quite generous interval, a few months were added tacitly, until the end of 2018 when, practically, no fines were applied for noncompliance. However, starting with the first months of 2019, a multitude of fines have been imposed, in all EU countries, on larger or smaller companies for breaches of the GDPR. The aim of this article is to outline a perspective on how the lack of compliance with GDPR in Romania was monitored and sanctioned and to present some conclusions related to the situation of other EU countries.
