Public – private partnership as a bridge between society's needs and the sustainable development goals achievement

Abstract: In contemporary economics, it can be seen how governments around the world tend to satisfy social needs by using more sustainable practices. Also, under the pressure of environmental degradation, more and more individuals in the private sector are interested in identifying solutions for sustainable development. Thus, a collaboration between the state and the private environment in the form of public-private partnerships that adapt to both economic, social and environmental needs is fundamental for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The parts of a public-private partnership must concretely define their objectives, to emphasize the measurement of the socio-economic dimensions of their policies, to realise a risk assessment taking into account all the essential areas of sustainable development - economic, social and environmental and to be aware that the emphasis on one dimension at the expense of the others can lead to the failure of this type of partnership to maintain enthusiasm, transparency and involvement throughout the life of the public-private partnership. Through this study, we aimed to carry out a literature review to highlight the current state of research regarding the integration of sustainability in public-private partnership projects and to identify existing gaps in this field that can become directions for further research and practice.
