In this paper the author analyses the main features of using economic methods and instruments to promote rational water consumption, identifies their goals and objectives. Also the writer observe basic directions of development of the economic mechanism of stimulation of rational water consumption, presented in the works of Russian scientists, such as: Khazov A., Glazkova S., Danilov - Danilyan V., Pylneva T., Soloviev, M. and foreign scientists, for example: Bic I. and Lauks P., Tarlock E. On the base of researching the author suggest concept of development of the economic mechanism of stimulation of rational water consumption, which includes three main directions: internallyoriented, economically-oriented, policy-oriented.
