The article analyzes the activities of commercial banks in Ukraine and a generalized approach to the essence of commercial banks and their role in economic development. It was concluded that ?ommercial banks, acting as a major financial intermediaries in the redistribution of temporarily free funds between economic agents, contribute to the economy of each country, the financial potential is determined by the potential of the banking system.
