Abstract: This article studies the development of tourism in St.Petersburg as compared to the rest of Russia. The last few years have been marked by a rapid growth of the Russian tourist industry. The author pays special attention to the new directions which local and national tourism is taking. The article then proposes several ways to develop the tourist industry in St Petersburg.
