Abstract: The article discourses upon the structural shifts in Saint Petersburg economy. Special attention is concentrated on some proportions forming in the industrial. The author adduces additional arguments in favour of the development of the science-intensive industry. The economy of Saint Petersburg is shifting to services-based one; however, it should not imply degradation of the manufacturing industry.
