Abstract: The paper analyses the essence of payment and settlement system from the point of view of various researchers. In the analysis of existing views on the object of research, we reveal a certain defects, which can be eliminated by consideration of structural elements of payment and settlement system. The last allows formulating our own view at the object of research with the historical argumentation
