Abstract: Evolution of financial science in Saint Petersburg State University was uneven for years. In the article, the periodicity of this process is presented and some crucial dates and events are discussed. The serious influence of German scientific thought on this process is marked as its specific feature. It is argued that just before the revolution of 1917, national financial school was formed mainly on the base of the University. The role of some influential scientists who worked in the University has been discussed as well.
