Abstract: In 1922 V.M. Stein hardly avoided an expulsion out of Soviet Russia because of his collaboration with opposition journal «The Economist». In situation of starting ideological offense of ruling party and strengthening repressions against heterodoxies, V.M. Stein was forced to escape from research of burning topics of the day. This time problems of the history of European economic thought proved to be in the centre of his scientific interests. L.D. Shirokorad reveals the scientific importance of V.M. Stein's works in these problems and why they hadn't been appreciated at its true value by his contemporaries and were finally forgotten.
