Abstract:
The author considers the history of Moscow-Kursk railroad construction in the context of the development of the Russian railroad service in the middle of the 19th century. The paper discloses the special role of this main line in the forming of the railway policy of the Russian Empire during the reign of Alexander II (1855-1881), at the stage of transition from the construction of the first pilot lines to the mass railroad construction and its importance in the All-Russia railroad communication system. The author analyzes of social, economic, geopolitical prerequisites for Moscow-Kursk railway construction and describes the main stages of its designing, building and exploitation.
