Abstract: In the run up to Rio+20 one area of research that has received considerable attention is the development of methodologies and tools for the identifi of worrying economic, social and environmental trends, and theevaluation of potential interventions through the analysis of alternative future scenarios. In fact, the main contribution of a green economy approach has been identifi as being the integration of sectoral interventions in a coherent, cross-sectoral framework of analysis. This study analyses the main methodologies and models currently available to carry out a green economy assessment and concludes that the selection of these tools should be done on a case-by-case basis, depending on specifi country needs and priorities. In addition, different models could be combined to inform the various phases of the policy cycle, and maximize the effectiveness of green economy interventions.
