Abstract: The article analyzes the results of the transformation carried out in the banking system of Poland, studies the consequences of arrival of western capital into the system and the expansion of its presence. The author compares the banking systems of Russia and Poland, identifies the similarities and major differences between the processes which take place there in order to examine the potential situation which could develop in the Russian banking sector in case it becomes easily accessible foreign capital.
