Abstract:
This paper examines those transports that in Galicia have become a tourist attraction in their own right and, consequently, tourist products. Firstly, a theoretical framework is established in order to distinguish between transport as tourism and transport for tourism. This is carried out by means of a revision of the geographical literature developed on the topic as well as by means of a mention of several international referencial experiences. Next, specific Galician experiences are studied through a classification by transport modes. In this classification all the practices are intended to gather: those that currently exist, as well as those carried out in the past, and even those that are forecasted. This study is complemented with case analysis of three organisations that offer transport as tourism products. These three organisations are considered representative of the existing heterogeneity of practices in Galicia. In the concluding section, the achieved results are discussed, the studied products effects on destinations are assessed and specific future proposals are elaborated.
