GENDER INEQUALITY IN LATIN AMERICA ACCORDING TO HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDICATORS

Abstract: The issue of gender equality has been a constant in the studies carried out by the UNDP on human development. To this end, a series of indicators that help to evaluate the level of their behaviour have been created. This paper presents an overview of its evolution during the last years in some Latin American countries, whilst the scope of the relationship between the Gender-related Development Index (GDI) and the Gender Empowerment Measure (GEM) is questioned. Despite the achievements obtained in education that level the situation of women and men, there are still important differences in the socio-economic female participation.
