La evolución de las cajas gallegas en la última década y su posterior transformación

Abstract: En este trabajo se estudia la evolución de las cajas de ahorros que operaron en Galicia en los años previos al proceso de reestructuración financiera: Caixanova y Caixa Galicia, y se analiza la situación a la que llegaron estas como consecuencia de su proceso de fusión y la posterior conversión en banco. Para la investigación, que comprende datos anuales durante el período 2000-2012, se han escogido las variables y las ratios adecuadas de acuerdo con la teoría contable, con la literatura previa y con las memorias de las instituciones de crédito, para determinar la rentabilidad, solvencia y liquidez de estas entidades. Además, se trata de evidenciar cuáles fueron los principales causantes que llevaron a una nueva integración de las cajas fusionadas en el grupo NCG Banco mediante ayudas del FROB.

This work is devoted to study the evolution of the savings banks that have been operating in Galicia in the years immediately before the financial restructuring, that is, Caixanova and Caixa Galicia. Their situation as a consequence of their merging process and the later conversion in a com-mon commercial bank is also analyzed. For this investigation, that includes annual data during the period 2000-2012, several variables and ratios were chosen in accordance to the accounting theory, the existing literature and the reports of credit institutions, in order to determine the profitability, solvency and liquidity of these credit agencies. Moreover, we intended to show the main causes that led to a new incorporation in the NCG Banco group with the help of FROB.
