Revista Galega de Economía, 2017, vol. 26, issue 3, 33-44

Abstract: The article presents the systems of evaluating the regions’ economic activity, which comprise various components. The regions’ economic activity evaluation is done mostly through different rankings, which can generally be classified into: global and national. The analysis of the rankings’ dynamics in 2012-2016 has shown that the Russian innovation activity is rising on the international level. Such a tendency is considered to be positive in the modern economic conditions, however the innovation activity needs to be accelerated. According to the national level rankings, there are 3 regions in the Russian Federation, which managed to apply their innovation potential better than other Russian Federation regions. Thus, various level rankings help defining the strengths and weaknesses of a region’s innovation development, that in future can become the basis for leading coordinated innovation policy.
