Cultivo de trigo y cambio técnico en España, 1900-1936

Historia Agraria. Revista de Agricultura e Historia Rural, 1996, issue 11, 39-56
Abstract:
This article starts by considering briefly why resources continued to be allocated to wheat farming, even though Spain enjoyed no comparative advantage in its production. It then considers the relatively slow diffusion of new techniques to enhance soil fertility (chemical fertilizers) and improve labour productivity (reaping and threshing machines). It concludes that even though farmers appear to have been “rational” in their slow response to new technologies, the impact for the economy as a whole was negative.
