Abstract: This paper analyses some of the processes to spread agricultural knowledge in an agricultural area on the periphery of Europe noted for its high yield. It also looks at the role played by the landowners in this process, emphasizing the social legitimating function this role had in the liberal society of the 19th century, The results show that the technical innovations did not only come from one single source. The information not only came from a developed Europe, but also from other continents and the already established empirical techniques in the country were systematized.
