Historia Agraria. Revista de Agricultura e Historia Rural, 2000, issue 21, 157-192
Abstract:
Labour mobility, particularly the rural workforce due to its quantitative relevance, has been and is still being interpreted from different theoretical approaches throughout the contemporary development processes. The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the main features, basic assumptions, and conclusions of the most important theoretical models that have underpinned the numerous empirical studies on migration. It also seeks to set out the established new trends. Finally, the paper concludes with a consideration and a proposal regarding the use of the different theories.
