Abstract:
This article seeks to study the financing of wool production and trade al the end of 18th Century This paper analyses the example of a company called Compañía de Ganaderos de las Provincias de Burgos y Soria, set up by a group of small and medium-size transhumance stock-breeders from the Ibérico mountain range in 1781 , with the aim of selling their wool directly to buyers. The study of their financial problems and their dealings with the San Carlos National Bank in this respect enable us to better understand the terms and conditions to secure funding for wool production and trade over the last two decades of the 18th Century. Furthermore, this study makes it possible to delve into some of the factors that led to the transhumance crisis in these mountains.
