Abstract:
This article seeks to study the labour organisation on banana farms in the Canary Islands in the first third of the 20th century. After a brief review of the fruit trade at that time, the paper describes the work involved in banana production and the ensuring labour needs. The information contained in the accounting system of a holding, which may be considered representative due to its size and workforce involved, enabled us to perform a dynamic analysis of labour needs and its productiveness.
