Abstract: This article reviews the contributions throughout the last twenty years to Spanish contemporary forest history. It contains two parts, one referred to the oligarchic liberalism (1808-1939), and another to Franco’s era and transition to democracy (1936-1979). Both parts include special references to property, management, social disputes and economic issues regarding forests. Some future lines of research are suggested in the conclusion.
