Abstract: This article seeks to analyze the tensions that emerged at the very heart of Spanish liberalism between, on the one hand, liberal doctrines and, on the other hand, the variety of circumstances that prevented their strict application, in terms of the different economic and social realities of 19th century Spain. This article mainly uses the information reported in the Minutes of the Sessions of the Spanish Parliament, from which it seeks to analyze the debates on the liberalization of the ownership of land and, in particular, common land. This analysis to show the influence of the different conditioning factors that held back liberalizing forces and led to the acceptance, with no apparent problems, of old forms of property.
