Abstract: This paper is devoted to the issues concerning reduction of costs connected with IT infrastructure of organizations and their functioning in the context of the more and more popular cloud computing approach used by them. It is composed of five parts. In the first part, a short analysis of money allocated by contemporary organizations for information technology is presented. Next, the notion of cloud computing is defined and the basic elements of this approach are presented along with the most important reasons for its development. The next part is devoted to the analysis of various issues connected with the cloud computing approach which can be the source of the reduction of costs. The penultimate part of the paper contains an analysis of the prospects for the development and utilization of cloud solutions. The results of the research concerning SMEs and cases connected with the public sector are presented in this context. In the final part of the paper, the most significant conclusions and suggestions are offered.
