Abstract: The article is a voice in the discussion about mobile payments as an innovation in the retail payments market. Due to the fact that mobile payments are in the early stages of development and the problems are relatively new, conceptual operationalization of mobile and contactless payments appears advisable, together with showing their evolution and evaluation of the development and advancement of technology as innovative forms of retail payments in Poland, which has been established as one of the purposes of this sub-study. Another aim is to analyze the determinants affecting the development of the aforementioned payments market in the foreseeable reality using the PEST analysis. This study uses both theoretical and empirical aspects of secondary research relating to the market in question and the PEST analysis as a tool for environmental research.
