Abstract:
The new regulatory and institutional trends in the financial sector are a response to the recent crisis. The need for public intervention and the mobilization of public funds to cover the mass losses of private entities have changed the point of view of regulators, supervisory authorities and public opinion. Firstly, stability has become by far the fundamental value of the financial system, much greater than its growth and innovation potential, which is widely reflected not only by the legal regulations. The study analyzes the trends in the systemic risk management in the insurance sector. It presents the characteristics of key tools for managing systemic risk in this sector, i.e.: preventive systemic risk management plans aimed at reducing the systemic importance of insurance institutions; recovery plans where the key role is played by the identification of systemically important areas of activity and the preparation of recovery scenarios; and the resolution mechanism.
