Abstract:
The article presents difficulties connected with implementation of the evidence based management (EBMgt) into contemporary organisations. Based on the analysis of the relevant literature as well as many years of professional experience at the Warsaw Medical University and at departments of management at several other universities, the author analyses analogies between evidence based management and evidence based medicine (EBM). The article mentions Ignac Semmelweis, a 19th century doctor from Vienna who was the precursor of EBM. His life and achievements may be viewed as a kind of warning showing the consequences of ignoring scientific evidence in everyday practice.
