Abstract: The aim of the paper is the analysis and assessment of determinants of the development of innovative activity of SMEs operating in sectors of regional smart specialisations. The first part of the paper is a literature review dedicated to the nature of smart specialisations, while the second part is an analysis of the experience of the Œwiêtokrzyskie Voivodeship in terms of opportunities to improve innovativeness of small and medium-sized enterprises through the development of smart specialisations. The research method consists in the analysis of existing materials, such as: The Regional Innovation Strategy of the Œwiêtokrzyskie Voivodeship, the Executive Plan, reports of the European Commission and the World Bank, as well as an analysis of quantitative research carried out among 314 SMEs.
