Abstract: The distribution of formal power is an essential element of corporate governance of every organization, including universities. The authors analyze this distribution at Polish public universities, i.e. at the University of Warsaw and at Warsaw School of Economics. The aim of the analysis is to identify entities possessing formal power in these universities, i.e. exerting decisive influence on the election of authorities of universities and their organizational units. The authors attempt to determine whether it is possible to identify management and supervisory bodies in the structure of a public university.
